Tips for Quality Images

Resampling / Interpolation
If you shoot with a digital camera, it is best to capture images at the highest quality jpeg setting. Upload your digital captures at your cameras resolution. We will do the resampling and sharpening of your images. We utilize the best methods for upsampling available and have printing experts that prep your image for the best possible enlargement.

File Types
We only accept JPEG files. We have done extensive testing and have found no visible difference between a jpeg file saved at 11 or 12 in Photoshop and a tiff. When using jpeg files, remember the lower the compression you use, the higher the quality your print. Also keep in mind the lower the compression used, the longer the upload time. Lower compression levels are selected by choosing higher numbers during saving an image as a jpeg (it's kinda backwards!) For the best quality prints and reasonably fast uplaod times, save your jpegs at a compression level of 11 or 12 (in Adobe Photoshop.)

Digital camera files
We suggest using at least a 2 megapixel camera for prints up to 18"x24", a 2.5 megapixel camera for prints up to 24"x36", a 3.1 megapixel camera for prints up to 36"x48", and a 5 megapixel camera for prints up to 40"x60". Please do not crop the image after capturing it (crop by composing the image tightly in camera when shooting.)

Scanning suggestions
While preparing to scan your image, your scanning software will allow you to set the size and resolution of your scan (also known as "target" size.) If you want a print 24"x36" or smaller, set your target print size to be at or near 6"x9" and set resolution to 200 ppi. If you want a larger print set the print size to be 6"x9" and the resolution to 400 ppi. We'll take your files from here and run final prep on them for optimum printing.

ARE YOU A TECHY?: For maximum output quality, here is what we need...
Set the files image size to the print size you want at 150 ppi. Send us a high quality jpeg. Our machines print 150 ppi files at true photographic quality. You can send us files that are either RGB or CMYK (the RGB will upload faster.)
